Prayer Walk Your House

It is springtime!  I am so excited after a long, cold winter to be able to open the windows and let some fresh air into the house.  It is the time I think about doing some spring cleaning and purging outgrown clothes or items we don’t need out of the house.  It is also the time I start to think about doing a prayer walk around the house.

There are probably several ways for someone to do a prayer walk.  I have heard of people praying over a house after they buy the house or walking around the house praying over their family.  All of these ways are great.  However, I like to do a prayer walk and seek God on how to organize the house, how to purge the house, or how to clean it.

Every time I do a prayer walk around my house it is really amazing to me the ideas which pop into my mind.  Now, the people that know me might say there is nothing new about that!  However, it always seems like the thoughts are things I would have never thought of or haven’t thought of even though I have lived in a house for years.

It might be to buy a $20 rack to hang by the front door to hang coats and backpacks.  It might be a pile of boys clothes which are in your child’s closet that a friend could use.  It could be finding an item you don’t need anymore that you can sell on Craigslist or Ebay.  It could be knocking out a wall to make recessed shelves in your office to store books.  It might be moving a piece of furniture to a more useful spot or to a different room.  It might be repurposing an item for another use like using a flower pot rack to store towels on in the bathroom.

We need to realize that God cares about the details.  Amazing, isn’t it?  We ask Him to bless our home, our children, our marriages, our church, but I would venture to guess we very rarely ask Him to help us see how we can make our homes run more efficiently, how we could bless someone else with what we have, or even make some needed money selling some stuff.

God is a God of order.  He set the world into motion.  Earth sits the perfect distance from the sun.  He made trees to use a process called photosynthesis to use sunlight as food.  He is not a God of chaos so I think it is right up His alley to ask Him for His help on organizing my home.

Every time I have done a prayer walk, I am never disappointed.  I come away with great ideas of how to better organize my home.  I even have walked away realizing that I am failing in some areas to follow through or maybe even lazy parenting.  I have been able to give items which were needed right at the proper time that it was needed by someone else.  Listen when you pray, and God will speak to you.  If you decide to pray for your family while your at it, then that will just be an added bonus.

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.”
Ephesians 6:18a
