I have had 3 straight days where my vision in my right eye looks like a rainbow kaleidoscope undulating and moving in my peripheral vision. It lasts about 10-20 minutes followed by a headache. The condition is called an ocular migraine. It has been a little scary.
It started as I sat at the car dealership on Friday, and the vision in my right eye began to look like a rainbow kaleidoscope undulating and moving in my peripheral vision. The kaleidoscope phenomenon lasted about 10 minutes and continued to get worse until about half of my right eye was effected. I did think in the moment that I might need to go to the eye doctor since what I was experiencing was certainly not normal.
However, I went home and felt fine. I did not experience it again so I chalked it up to having been hungry or fatigued, but the next day I got another one. It lasted about the same amount of time as the other one. It seemed to come from the right eye again. If I can be objective it can be quite cool and psychedelic. However, when it is happening, it really freaks me out. I was also driving when this one occurred. This time I knew I had to call the doctor to see if I could get in that day.
After my kaleidoscope eye incident on Saturday, I got a horrible headache for most of the rest of the day. I took some Tylenol which didn’t even touch my headache. I called the optometrist that day to make an appointment.
My eyes look normal, and my vision is 20/20. My retina is not detaching which is great news. I did not have any blood clots or floaters in my eyes which is also great news. I seem to have a condition called an ocular migraine. It is a form of a migraine. The eye has visual disturbances which can be what I experienced, blurred or even tunnel vision. It can or cannot be followed by an actual headache.
The optometrist said that these type of migraines come in clusters, and I may have one or two more in the next day or two. I have to go back to see the doctor if I have one every day for a week so they can run more tests.
I was hopeful that it was the end of it, but I got another one last night. It lasted for about 20 minutes. It can make me a little nauseous in the moment since everything just seems to be moving.
So, as day four arrives, I still have not had one today which is great, but my right eye is swollen. It is also on the same side that I had all my sinus issues so maybe that has something to do with it too. My head has also hurt all day.
I would just love some prayer. Chances are that everything is fine. My eyes are fine, and my body is fine. This will pass away as quickly as it came on. My biggest worry would be what if it is a brain tumor or a brain aneurysm. The optometrist seemed to think I was safe on that. I just feel a little worried about it especially since my eye was swollen today. I know I am not supposed to worry, but I am just being real. Thank you sweet friends!
I have those occasionaly too, but never 3 consecutive days. And I’ve never had a headache afterwards. Mine usually last 30 minutes. My Opthamologist wasn’t concerned about it so I haven’t been. Praying for resolution for the issue and peace of mind.
I get ocular migraine symptoms sporadically. I just had the worst one today. My name is Brendan I live in new York city. It’s almost like hallucinating. They last up to 20 minutes for me. I will pray for you. Please pray for me I’m homeless and struggling to find safe housing. Good bless
