Layered Ice Cream Dessert

This is such a great summer dessert, and kids (and adults) love it.  I got this recipe from the book, The Duggars:  20 and Counting.  It called for Butterfingers which are not my favorite so I modified it to my taste.  My mom has also made this same dessert with various toppings.

Layered Ice Cream Dessert
24 ice cream sandwiches
8 ounces Cool Whip
1 10 oz. bag Andes Creme De Menthe baking chips
1 squeeze-bottle chocolate syrup
Arrange six layers in a 13x9x2 pan.
First layer:  Arrange 12 ice cream sandwiches in the bottom of the pan.  They won’t all fit totally in the pan.  I find the following layering technique works the best (5,5, & 2).  A little sliver has to be cut off of the end of one sandwich to make it fit.
Second layer:  Half the container of Cool Whip.
Third layer:  Pour chocolate syrup on top of Cool Whip widthwise and lengthwise to your taste.  Sprinkle 1/2 to 1 cup of Andes chips over chocolate syrup.
Fourth layer:  Another layer of 12 sandwiches.
Fifth layer:  The rest of the Cool Whip.
Sixth layer:  Pour chocolate syrup on top of Cool Whip widthwise and lengthwise to your taste.  Sprinkle 1/2 to 1 cup of Andes chips over chocolate syrup.
Freeze until ready to eat.  Cut into squares and serve.  Freeze leftovers.
Variations:
Chocolate ice cream sandwiches, chocolate syrup, chocolate chips
Chocolate ice cream sandwiches, chocolate syrup, crushed Oreos
Vanilla ice cream sandwiches, chocolate syrup, peanut butter chips
Vanilla ice cream sandwiches, caramel syrup, chocolate syrup, Heath chips
Strawberry ice cream sandwiches, strawberry syrup, strawberries
Strawberry ice cream sandwiches, chocolate syrup, chocolate chips
You can also use your favorite crushed up candy bars such as Snickers, Butterfinger, Skor, etc.  The possibilites of what you could put in this recipe really are endless.
