Jump to recipeWhat is better than a good old-fashioned Chess pie? Well, Chocolate Chess pie, of course! Chess pie is typically seen in Southern cuisine, but I have always loved Chocolate Chess the best. If you love chocolate and you like it being as rich as Bill Gates, then this recipe is for you.
Both pies are super simple to make with just a few ingredients, but here is how you make the chocolate variety. Click here for the recipe for a regular Chess pie.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 3 Tablespoons cocoa
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) salted butter, melted and cooled
- 1 small 5 oz can of evaporated milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 pie crust (You can use refrigerated, frozen or homemade pie crust.)
Instructions
- Mix sugar, cocoa and salt. Beat dry ingredients together with a whisk and smooth out any chunks of cocoa. Add eggs and butter. Beat with whisk. Add milk and vanilla. Beat until smooth and ingredients are incorporated. Pour into pie crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes until cooked in the center and crust is golden brown.
