Every year for Christmas, our kids get new pajamas, socks, and underwear as their gift from mom & dad on Christmas Eve. I do this, because it is what my mom’s parents did for her. I think it is a great idea. The kids wear their new pajamas to bed that night, and they always have on nice, new pajamas for all of the pictures on Christmas morning.
A couple of years ago, I bought Hanes socks for the kids for Christmas that year. I didn’t really think anything about it. They were just socks, right? Well, I will tell you that those socks were the best thing that ever happened to my laundry load.
Let me just begin by saying that my most hated laundry load is the whites load. It takes so much time to sort through all of those socks! Matching the height of the crew socks, different elastic patterns, some with distinguishing marks, and others which have none. I love the Hanes socks, because they have different colors for each size of socks. They call it EZ sort, and they are right. It is easy.
The male socks have the gray toe and the female socks do not have the gray toe. The Hanes logo is on the underside of the sock in different colors for the different sock sizes. So, the sock colors for our family are as follows:
Dad: Red
Mom: Pink
#1 Girl: Light Blue
#2 Boy: Navy Blue
#3 Girl: Purple
When I am sorting socks, I pull them out by color now. The reds go in one pile, pinks in another pile, and so on. When I am done with that, I put them all in pairs. It has cut my sock sort in half at least. They also last all year long (most of the time) and are really thick and cushy. They are the only socks I buy now for my kids and for us with the exception of dress socks or wool socks.
Carl says Hanes should be paying me for this free advertising. I think that when you find a good thing, it is natural to want to share that good thing with others. I know it might be weird to write a blog about socks, but I just had to share my good thing.
We do the pajamas on Christmas Eve too. For the same reasons–nice pajamas for Christmas morning pictures and because my parents did it.
Socks are also my least favorite load of laundry. I agree with Carl that you should be paid for your mini commercial because I like that they do that! They're so smart. My husband's mom had 3 boys and I remember them all having an initial on the bottoms! Thanks for the info.
Here is another sock tip… I've started this about a year ago and really wish I thought of it sooner. Remember growing up and your mom would tuck your sock into the other and fold over the top to keep the socks together… well that always resulted in one of my socks being stretched out… I did NOT like that.
so now what I do and all the kids do, is when you get your pair of socks, you have one right side out and one inside out. REACH your hand inside the "inside out" sock and put it on your hand like a sock puppet. then when your hand "inside the sock" grab the correct sock with your now hand puppet and then use your other hand to grab the ankle part of the hand sock puppet and pull it completely OFF your hand, whilst you are holding the other sock.
Essentially putting one sock inside the other. NOW you have a perfect pair, no stretching, they'll stay together. really easy to put the socks together, my kids love doing it and all you have to do is reach inside your drawer and not have to look for the mate.
try it… you'll like it! I'll never do socks any other way again.
Love Kellie
