One Bible At A Time

As the second anniversary of The Cross Eyed Blog just past, I thought it was a great time to start another blog.  Crazy I know!  It is an idea that God has placed on my heart, and I have been contemplating it for almost a year now.  The blog is called One Bible At A Time.

Almost a year ago, I was shopping at the dollar store in the book aisle.  I was looking at books for my youngest child and browsing the adult section.  My eye then scanned over to see two whole shelves of Bibles.  Bibles for one dollar, I thought to myself.  I couldn’t help but think that there really was no reason that I could not afford to put some Bibles in the hands of people who needed them or wanted them if the price was only one dollar.

Living in a community where it is said that 90% are unchurched, I often wonder how to make a difference.  It seems too big for any one person, but buying Bibles seemed like something simple that I could do.

Hebrews 4:12 (ESV) says, “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”  If I could get the Bibles out there, God’s word would speak for itself.  He would draw people to Himself.

So, I decided to start another blog called One Bible At A Time.  My intentions are to buy Bibles periodically and leave them in the free drop-off section at the library.  I have labeled each one with its own number and a reference to the blog so people who would like to can leave comments regarding their experiences or even questions they might have.   I think in this day of social media, it could be an idea that might engage some people especially a younger crowd.

I don’t know what might happen with this idea.  I might never know this side of heaven even.  All I know is that I am moving forward with an idea I feel glorifies God and could possibly change a life.  My hope is to be an instrument used by God to change lives one Bible at a time.

“What do you think?  If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray?”
Matthew 18:12, ESV
