Two Rugs Are Better Than One

It is tip time!

I came up with the rug idea as a quick way to keep my house clean actually by accident.  I had two of the same rugs in my kitchen.  One of the rugs was under my kitchen sink, and the other one was on the other side of the room under my dog’s food dish.  About a year ago, I decided to move my dog’s food into our master bathroom.  It was better for her due to better access to her food, and I gained some floor space in my kitchen.

I debated on getting rid of the extra rug, but didn’t want to do that.  I didn’t want to store it either, because I really didn’t want to give up the storage space in my linen closet.  I decided to put it in the linen closet until I figured out what to do with it.

Food and Dirt and Hair, Oh My!

One day when I was cleaning for company, I looked at my kitchen mat covered in dog hair, dirt, and other unidentified food particles.  I wished I had time enough to run it through the washer, but I knew I didn’t have time.  This was when the light bulb came on.  I would exchange the clean rug in the closet for the dirty one.

This is what I have done ever since.  This past weekend I was sweeping my kitchen and cleaning off countertops for my company which was coming over.  I just took the dirty rug out of the kitchen, put it in the laundry hamper, and put the clean one in the kitchen.  It probably took me 30 seconds.  Then I can just wash the dirty rug at my leisure.

Fresh & Clean

So, if you have a kitchen rug, get a second one.  This way you can just exchange it out when the other one gets dirty or when company is coming over.  It is a quick and handy trick to keeping the house clean and looking nice in a jiffy!
