Snow Ice Cream

Yes, you read the title right folks.  Snow Ice Cream.  It is epic.  It is delicious.  It will make your kid’s eyes light up when you mention the very words.  You can thank me later when they say you are the greatest Mom ever.  Just don’t tell them it is so super easy!

Snow Ice Cream

Fresh snow (and lots of it)
Sugar
Milk
Vanilla extract

Gather clean, fresh snow in a large roasting pan.  I use my Granite Wear large roasting pan I use for my turkey.  Make sure to get snow which has not touched the ground, is on the top layer, and not yellow!  The more you can get in the pan the better.  It will melt and dissolve some when you add your ingredients.

Working quickly, sprinkle sugar generously over the top.  Add milk in very small amounts until the mixture is stirred together and is still very thick and slushy.  Add 1-2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.  This is not an exact science, but if you add too much milk, you will have a soupy mess.  If it is not sweet enough, add more sugar.  If it is too thick, add some more milk.  If it tastes a little bland, add some more extract.  You are looking for an thick milkshake type of consistency.

Follow the cooking rule of
“You can always add, but you can’t take it out.”
You can also use other extracts like almond or rum to give it added flavor if you like those flavors better.  Make and enjoy quickly as it will melt fast.  This recipe brings back wonderful memories of my childhood.  I hope you have some snow this winter so you can enjoy this recipe!
