Lauren Donated To Locks Of Love

Here was a typical morning at our house with our 6 year old girl.  Carl or I would say, “Lauren, we need to brush your hair.”  She would then say she has already brushed it.  Her idea of brushing her hair is lightly running the brush through various sections but not the whole thing and surely not doing a good job.  So, we would start to brush her hair.  Usually, there were tears and/or yells of torture as her dad or I would try to get the tangles out of her hair which was three quarters of the way down her back.  We couldn’t help but relate it biblically to the “weeping and gnashing of teeth”.  It was not a pretty sight.

We began to talk to her about her hair.  If she did not want to endure the pain, we needed to cut it a little bit shorter or a lot shorter.  She said she wanted to cut it all the way up to her shoulders.  That gave me an idea.  Madison had donated her hair to Locks of Love many years ago.  Locks of Love is an organization which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair due to cancer, alopecia, or other various reasons.  I told Lauren about it, and she was all in.

As we set off to the salon, she said, “I am going to tell them that I am doing this, because I love God and God wants us to help other people.”  She is such a lovey girl!

When we arrived, it was apparent that my hairstylist did not want to cut off all of Lauren’s beautiful hair.  She asked me several times, “Are you sure you want to do this?  Her hair is so beautiful.”  Yes, we were all in, not only for the kid that would receive her hair, but also for the prospect of no more tears in the morning.

She put Lauren’s hair in a braid, and then she cut it off.  What a brave girl and what a brave hairstylist!

She styled Lauren’s hair in the cutest little bob.  I think it is truly darling!

This morning as we got ready, I said, “Lauren, let’s come brush your hair.”  She came in.  We brushed her hair with no tears, and it took less than one minute.  That is my kind of hairstyle!

If you are interested in donating to Locks of Love, just click on the link to get all the information you need.  Some salons, like mine, will send the hair in for you so you don’t even have to pay the postage.  It is such a good cause, and a great way for kiddos to feel that even though they are little, they can do big things.

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12
