Back To School 2017

There is an old saying when it comes time for back to school.  Boohoos and Woohoos.  Where do you sit as a mommy?  I would say most of my friends lean harder into the woohoo camp usually.  This momma tends to lean harder into the boohoo camp.  I don’t ever actually cry, but I do have a sadness that summer is over.

I love summer!  I love the heat.  I love staying up late.  I love sleeping in.  I love having pajama days and making tents in the living room.  I love having no papers or agendas to sign, no lunches to pack, and I just love having my kids in the nest.

Here we are though.  The first day of school today for our crew, and I have to admit that this year I am a little bit more excited than I usually am.  There were some big milestones this year.

Madison, College Freshman

My oldest child, Madison, is officially enrolled in college classes!  I can’t believe she is old enough, or that I am old enough to be sitting in a college orientation class.  She was there to gather the information, and I was there as the moneybags.  This is such a milestone in her life, and I couldn’t help but reminisce about my own college journey.  I am so excited for her.  I am excited to watch as she finds her way in the world and finds her way in a career.  She told me once what she really wanted to be was a stay-at-home mom like I had been.  I have rarely gotten such a big compliment!  She will surely be a success in whatever she chooses to do.

Nathan, 11th grade

My middle child, Nathan, started his 11th grade year of homeschooling this year.  He is going through Liberty Academy again, and I can’t say enough great things about this school.  We have loved the education he is getting.  Everything is online, and it is all accredited.  He will mix work in there too like he has done in the past.  I love how homeschooling gives him such flexibility so he can learn how to earn money by working a job, be responsible, be in charge of his own school work, etc.  We are excited for this new year for him too.

Lauren, 6th grade

My youngest child, Lauren, started middle school this year.  I can’t believe that!  It is a big milestone.  She was nervous and excited when I dropped her off this morning, but everything went really smoothly today.  She really has made some great friends in elementary school, and most of those friends have transitioned to her middle school.

This year, I am praying for friends for my kids.
“Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company ruins good morals’.” 1 Corinthians 15:33, ESV

This year, I am praying my kids will be found out if they are doing something they shouldn’t be doing.
“…you have sinned against the Lord, and your sin will find you out.” Numbers 32:23, ESV

This year, I am praying I will be better at discipling my kids.
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6, ESV

This will be Madison’s view from her college study pods!

I am praying for a lot of things this year for my kids as I am sure you are praying for yours as well.  I hope everyone has a great school year, and God bless you all!

Blessings, Andrea
