A Prayer Request or Two

My blog usually includes encouraging words, a tip or two, or what I feel God is convicting me of at that time.  This blog will be a little bit different.  It is a couple of requests for prayer for our family this week.  I would really appreciate it.

First Prayer Request

A co-worker recently had a child who had to have their tonsils and adenoids removed.  As I listened to all of the symptoms her child had, I couldn’t help but think of my daughter, Lauren, as she talked.  My daughter had all of those symptoms.

Some of the symptoms she had were being a mouth breather when she sleeps, extending her neck with her chin up, and inclining her pillow when she sleeps.  The reason they do this is to get more oxygen.

Last year when we went on vacation, the kids and I thought it was funny to take a picture of her when she slept.

It is a symptom that they are not getting enough air and so have to extend their esophagus to be able to get enough air flow.  There were many other symptoms, but it was enough to get me into an ENT to have her looked at.  Her tonsils looked OK, but her adenoids were enlarged to the point they are blocking at least 70% of her nasal passages and her nasal passages are very small.

So, she is scheduled to go in this Thursday for an outpatient surgery to have her nasal passages enlarged and her adenoids removed.  The doctor said he would look at the tonsils again when he had her under anesthesia to see how they looked, but it is not his plan to take those out at this time unless he sees something concerning when he looks at them on Thursday.

I am requesting prayer for my baby that her surgery will go well and that God’s hand will be on her.  I ask for your prayer for her recovery and also strength for us as parents in taking care of her.

Second prayer request
I would like to ask for prayer for myself.  Thursday night I started feeling really warm.  I couldn’t really figure out if I felt like I had a fever or if I was just overheated from dehydration or maybe because I am forty something!  However, by Friday I felt pretty horrible with fever and chills.  I sweated through two sets of pajamas on Friday night.  Saturday morning I felt like my fever had broken, and I was probably on the mend.  However, by 3pm or 4pm, the fever was back.  It has not left me since unless I am under the influence of prescription strength Advil.

We had planned a trip with Carl’s parents to Glacier Park.  It was truly beautiful, but it was hard to enjoy fully when all I felt like doing was just to lay down.  I went to an urgent care center on the road.  My fever was high.  They did a couple of test, but determined it was just a virus.

So, I am currently heading into my fifth day with high fever and chills.  Please pray for me.  I am scheduled to run the half-marathon with my daughter this weekend, and I don’t want to let her down.  It is hard to think about putting all that time and effort into training and not be able to run.  I need to be better and have several days to rest and get proper nutrition.

Please pray for healing for me and if not, that I can be OK with whatever the Lord has for me.  I have been encouraged by 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (ESV) which says, “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

This was not my plan, but I need to be OK if I not able to run.  I pray that I will be able to though!

Thank you to all of my family, friends, and sweet, faithful prayer warriors who I know will lift my family up in prayer this week.  I thank you for it in advance.  Blessings!
